Background:
Back in 2004 there was this tripfag name Soviet_Russia#deadjew
Since this was the early ass days, moot decided to give this guy his own whole board on 4chan which was /z/ and it was basically a puked up pile of random gif and horrible stylesheeting that was short lived as he soon became "bored" of it immediately after accidentally giving out the password for his moderator login on irc.
About harbl:
He was going to search in google for "pearl harbor" for a reason I forget and ended up typoing harbor with "harbl"
He found this word to be funny enough to post about making image macros that would say "ooooh you touch my harbl" using some faggy livejournal guy who I think ended up becoming that fag that that "The Game" book is about, but basically So_Ru would post this guys pics claiming them as himself (it wasn't)
The /b+z+etc/ denizens at the time found it pretty funny and thus become one of the prototypical major memes on 4chan along with stuff like "take the knot!" and cockmongler and happy negro et cetera.
Of course, as this was 8 years ago and most of the imageboard userbase was still in diapers when this all happened, hardly any of them have even heard of harbl let alone Soviet_Russia or the short-lived /z/, but its usage is still seen on occasion.
As for where So_Ru is now, I think he probably died, he was some obese crazy shit, heart attack or suicide you take your pick. Or he's on reddit or whatever site is the "hippest" shit these days.
