My complaint about 4chan

Name: VIPPER 2007-02-05 22:00

People generally have strong views about 4chan. Before I get moving here, let me point out that if 4chan gets its way, I might very well sink into a miasma of doubt and alienation. When I first became aware of 4chan's covert invasion into our thought processes, all I could think was how I really hope you're not being misled by the "new 4chan". Only its methods and tactics have changed. 4chan's goal is still the same: to meddle in everyone else's affairs. That's why I'm telling you that 4chan has certainly never given evidence of thinking extensively. Or at all, for that matter. As I've said before, 4chan is known for walking into crowded rooms and telling everyone there that the world's salvation comes from whims, irrationality, and delusions. Try, if you can, to concoct a statement better calculated to show how venal 4chan is. You can't do it. Not only that, but it and I disagree about our civic duties. I believe that we must do our utmost to keep our priorities in check as expeditiously as possible. 4chan, on the other hand, believes that it is the one who will lead us to our great shining future.

4chan argues that science is merely a tool invented by the current elite to maintain power. To maintain this thesis, 4chan naturally has had to shovel away a mountain of evidence, which it does by the desperate expedient of claiming that it has the mandate of Heaven to keep essential documents hidden from the public until they become politically moot. As far as I'm concerned, 4chan's excuses are intellectually and morally indefensible. I mean, think about it. Being the analytical sort that I am, I would have to say that if 4chan truly wanted to be helpful, it wouldn't dispense outright misinformation and flashlight-under-the-chin ghost stories.

If I have a bias, it is only against abusive proponents of frotteurism who shout direct personal insults and invitations to exchange fisticuffs. I have given this issue a great deal of thought, and I now have a strong conviction that 4chan drops the names of famous people whenever possible. That makes it sound smarter than it really is and obscures the fact that my long-term goal is to present another paradigm in opposition to 4chan's unsophisticated homilies. Unfortunately, much remains to be done. As you may have noticed, 4chan wants to make mountains out of molehills. What's wrong with that? What's wrong is 4chan's gossamer grasp of reality. 4chan's buddies' thinking is fenced in by many constraints. Their minds are not free because they dare not be. If history follows its course, it should be evident that 4chan is the type of organization that turns up its nose at people like you and me. I guess that's because we haven't the faintest notion about the things that really matter, such as why it would be good for it to use cheap, intemperate propaganda to arouse the passions of morally repugnant weirdos. In purely political terms, my cause is to ring the bells of truth. I call upon men and women from all walks of life to support my cause with their life-affirming eloquence and indomitable spirit of human decency and moral righteousness. Only then will the whole world realize that 4chan has spent untold hours trying to create division in the name of diversity. During that time, did it ever once occur to it that I don't expect everyone to agree with me? You know the answer, don't you? You probably also know that the concepts underlying its narrow-minded remonstrations are like the Ptolemaic astronomy, which could not have been saved by positing more epicycles or eliminating some of the more glaring discrepancies. The fundamental idea -- that the heavens revolve around the Earth -- was wrong, just as 4chan's idea that the federal government should take more and more of our hard-earned money and more and more of our hard-won rights is wrong. So you see, 4chan's myrmidons, who are legion, will leave us high and dry as they seize control over where we eat, sleep, socialize, and associate with others.
