why don't you just post on 4chan?...even if you could read 2ch it would have nothing to do with you because they live all the way in Japan, well..unless your planning to live in Japan where its much better to just take a vacation rather than living there..
Anime and drama gets translated right away so you dont really need it for that. you have 4chan, 7chan for anonymous message boards.. , You want to live there for all the otaku stuff? your better of figuring out how to make a credit card and ordering it online. If you want to go to Akiba just take a vacation there.
Reading untranslated stuff might be your only reason to study it but you have to pass the 2kyu Japanese examination (4 is the lowest 1 is the highest level) to be able to read those, so unless your really going to try hard everyday and dedicate your life to it, then you might as well not learn it beacause its just a big waste of time. If you want Japanese friends screw it cause they're most likely there to learn english from you, not be your friend. And its also engraved into their mentality that foreginers are not human, so they will always treat us as some kind of mythical creature from outer space.

I wanted to learn jap so I can get all the japanese electronics and games. You need to be able to operate those and they tend to write their manuals in japanese.
