Given I have read that bicycles, especially at the cheaper end of the market, the components that are not particularly good quality are the rims, which from what I understand are the parts more likely to cause issues for larger people such as myself (110kg presently), I'm more after a suggestion as to what sort of bike to aim for.
Currently I am looking at either a Giant Upland SE (and get some Continental Town & Country tyres) or a Giant Boulder (and possibly the tyre upgrade).
My aim is mainly to use it as a commuting bike, with the occasional shortcut here and there on non-bitumen surfaces (hence where I think the tyre upgrade is worth it).
Would the upgrade from the Upland SE to the Boulder actually be particularly beneficial in terms of value for money ($400 instead of $350, at the local bike shop), as I can't see much difference between the two other than the 3 extra gears on the Boulder.
