EDIT 9/18/04: Updated to show that 5chan is back. Things have been running smoothly for us and we are MUCH more popular than ever. Hooray?

I started 4chan when I was very bored, in need of porno, and wanted a cool email address (especially because I couldn't register pant.su ). The immediate result was a cool 2chan clone that provided me with all such things, but a few unwanted side effects, the predominant one being ANIMU OTAKU KAWAII BAKA NEKOS-TAN-^______^-PYO-NYOs. Said people are complete wastes of human life and made running the site hell not only for me, but the original users (RH), and people like C_V and shut who tried to help with the burden. The end result was the site dying multiple times, with its final (READ: IT NEVER DIES) death on June 20th, 2004.

2chan - What 4chan was modeled after. 2chan's image boards can be considered the "Second Coming of Christ", or likened to an abortion. Use shut's English 2chan Navigation page to figure out where to go.

After RH harassed him and I visited #5chan (which was filled with similar people), he decided to shut 5chan down. Now a guy named Zabadab runs it, who is German, not as nerdy as Ed, but is kind of a dick.

Two funny things. When I originally ran ads for a short while, one of the prospective buyers was none other than TheRowan, owner and webmaster of HentaiKey. What is HentaiKey you say? HentaiKey is a company that sells crappy anime porno at equally crappy prices. Oh, also they host anime/hentai sites and sell the emails used on signup for profit. One of example of such a site is the aforementioned, 5chan.
Now here is the interesting thing. Disappointed that 5chan was getting virtually no traffic and signups compared to 4chan, TheRowan decided to take action. What would any simple minded person do to shut down an opposing website? Cut the funds of course! On June 15th, 2004, TheRowan successfully contacted, and convinced PayPal to shut down 4chan's donation account (which was in no way physically tied to the domain originally), for violation of their AUP/TOS. By locking me out of EVERY SINGLE DONATION I had recieved, he effectively killed the site, as I could not pay the now $500+ bandwidth bills.
It was not the GNAA who killed 4chan (I quite like them actually), or really the moronic users, it was a man named Chris, who goes by the name TheRowan and runs a business that shuts you down if you fail to play along.
