I just saw a sneak showing of Cloverfield. The monster looks like an old man crossed with Joe Camel with reversed elbows and a tail, and everyone dies.

It's just a rabid ghoulish thing that looks vaguely humanoid, and drops off little CGI termites that infect you with explodey disease. It doesn't resemble a lizard or a squid or a whale unfortunately. The best scene is going in a building that's tipped over. The building was the real star of the show. The movie is a lot like Blair Witch Project filmed in Universal Studios "Earthquake the Ride" with some CG added. The monster isn't that important- it's watching the people act. Or try to. They did a good job with their lines. Though it is full of screaming and banging and waving the camera around until you get motion sickness. Hopefully you won't mind the characters acting freaked out the whole time.

There's a guy and his brother and a black girl and a quiet girl and a dumb guy who likes her. They're at a party when something attacks and the lights go off and they see the statue of liberty's head land on the street, then get in a building and cough up dust, then try to evacuate when the main guy's brother dies from the brooklyn bridge collapsing from the monster's tail. The main guy calls his girlfriend and learns she's injured, and wants to go find her, so they form an RPG party and go into the subway and are attacked by CGI termites, then locate the military and the girl that was bitten explodes, then they go into an apartment building to rescue his girlfriend, then get on a helicopter that watches the monster get bombed, then the monster attacks the helicopter and it crashes, but they survive, but the dumb guy gets eaten, but the other two go into a tunnel and survive, but then they die, and then there's happy footage of conie island.
