New Doctor Who

Name: kwizzeh !YXzbg2XOTI 2005-03-29 3:23

Anybody catch/download the new Dr. Who series? Seems and feels great like the classical ones. Discuss.

Damn shame that the guy playing the new Doctor is leaving after just one series really.

From what I heard, he's only doing one series so he wouldn't typecast.

Unfortunately for him, it is impossible not to be typecast as the Doctor no matter how long you play him.

They are going to run out of regenerations soon,

Actually, he's mentioned that he has had several past incarnations before the "first doctor," though this has probably been retconned (Wikipedia)

Well, I have seen the first season but it just left with a lingering question.  Why hasn't BBC America brought it over?  I mean it makes perfect sense for them to do so.  Do they believe there are no Dr. Who fans over in the US?  If BBC America won't air it, why doesn't SciFi Channel make a grab for it?  I would really like to see this on local TV.

Awesome series, too bad the Americans aren't getting it. Even us snowshoe-clad Canadians are getting it, and on a national public channel to boot. Not sure if the daleks are coming back for another season either; they pretty much put the cap on that story arc with the first season's finale. The guy who has the intellectual property rights on the daleks doesn't plan on allowing the BBC to use them again either (unless his merchandise sales are dropping). It's nice to see the series sticking to its roots with people actually being aliens in skin suits though.

Also, what's up with the American captain? They just kinda ditched him on Sattelite 5 on the season finale.

According to someone that's a bigger Docotr Who fan than I am, Big Finish, the production company behind Doctor Who would only allow it on American TV if they could get it on one of the bigger networks, which I could never really see happening.

Next season is going to deal with the return of the Cybermen

ARRRRGH! Cybermen!

The next episode of the new series will be broadcast on Christmas day, with Chris Tennant playing the new doctor. Hes a pretty funny guy, so he should do it justice =)

...rephrase that... its David Tennant who plays the new doctor. Its Chris Eccleston who is leaving.

First of all, I would like to comment...

WOO!  Cybermen!  The true terror above and beyond the Dalek!  Well I suppose that is up to personal opinion, but that would be my personal opinion.

Second of all, I would have to agree, getting a good scifi show on a major network is not really happening.  I do hope they come around and not try such a crazy thing.  I shudder to think of them trying to get it on Fox which I personally nickname "The Scifi Killer".  Every scifi show that has aired on Fox died!

David Tennant is gooooood......

Ok, I need someone to verify for me that I did not have a mental delusion here.  I could have sworn I saw a commercial on scifi channel advertising that they will be showing the new Dr. Who series starting in March.  Can anyone back this claim or do I need to hit the funny farm?

Shame that, I wonder what this new guy will be like? Dosent seem to look the part if you ask me.

I've been watching Doctor Who.  At least this one has respectable special effects.

What are you talking about?  Rubber suits creep me out.

I have seen an episode with the new Doctor.  I agree with you that when I first saw him, I didn't think he would be good at the part, but trust me when I say to be patient.  He pulls around in his first episode and convinced me of the role he plays.

I live in Scotland and have watched every ep so far, only 4 left in S2. Remember each doctor has his own quirks so give DT a chance for those who haven't watched S2 yet. As someone who watched the old series I really like that it's back.
