So I went to Radioshitcakes yesterday, since it was semi-open (cash only, power out) and, because it was the only electronics store open in my area to go and buy electronics at, having no internet connection to buy elsewhere at that moment. in fact, I was there to buy a new router, my old one kicking the bucket last week and having been replaced with a junky Netgear one with a shitty VxWorks-based firmware until I was able to get another.

so I go in to buy a Linksys E900 (which I intended to, and have, dropped DD-WRT on-- wonderful 2x2 N300 router for the price of ~$40, highly recommend it) and was given a written receipt.

>a written receipt.

yes, I said that correctly. a written fucking reciept from an electronics store during a power outage. I would have expected them to have a generator for the registers/necessities to be running or something like most of the other stores in the area with the rest of the power out.

I have only seen a receipt like this once before, with a box of old Commodore 64 goodies I got from someone throwing them out. I had no idea Radioshack still had these in this day and age.

The electronics store I go to only has written receipts, which they prepare in a book that has several receipt blanks on each page, separated by perforations. They fill in your name, the date, the products purchased and the price, and then they tear out the receipt along the perforated line. They even get to keep a copy, because the sheets come in pairs, with the first sheet in each pair - the one written on by the clerk - is made of carbonless copy paper, while the other sheet accepts the markings generated by writing on the copy paper.
It's all pretty elegant when you think about it, the only problem is that it's a drag to be the one counting up all the receipts to tally them up. But the people running the store probably don't mind.
