Which does /g/ prefer? Linux or Windows?
a) If you pick linux, which is the best distro?
b) If you picked Windows, which is the best version?

* I'm not counting Mac OX. If you use that piece of crap, please cancel your internet connection and commit seppuku.

The /tech/ distro of choice is Slackware. In terms of stability, user-friendliness, and speed, there's really no competition.

For Windows, always use the most recent version. You might be more used to the last version's user interface, but unless you want to be hacked, you should always use the most recent version; this is true for ALL operating systems.

I hope this helped. Slack off today ;)

Operating systems have specialties, whether it's for a function, or if it's for a specific kind of user.
I am more into security, so I use Backtrack 5 R1 for pen testing, and kUbuntu 11.10 for regular use because of how well they keep the distro up to date.
For Windows, a pirated version of Windows 7 Ultimate x64, because fuck paying for an operating system and then being restricted to their rules for how you are allowed to use it.
I am however going to be testing FreeBSD with my netbook.
