Hey /tech/

I've been looking through various XFCE distributions of linux but I'm not sure which one to go for.

Any ideas, /tech/?

PS: I would like it to support the latest version of W.I.N.E

OP here.

What do you guys think of vida linux? Gentoo is as confusing as crap, I can't get past the boot screen (because I'm a n00b). Could someone help me? The handbook makes no sense (RTBM, I know), but does anyone know a simple resource or tutorial that could help me get Gentoo working? (GUI please)

Cheers /tech/

You know, you can install pretty much any distro and then install a desktop environment for it later... like, if a distro doesn't come with XFCE, but you want to use XFCE, you can just download and install XFCE and use it with that distro. It's not as if you're stuck with the DE that comes with the distro.

I'd recommend Xubuntu, since it's pretty much just Ubuntu with XFCE, and you said you're a "noob", so that would be a good distro, since it's user-friendly.

Or you could install Ubuntu or Debian and then install XFCE. Either way, it doesn't make a big difference.

OP here, again.

Thanks for your great response. I've used a lot of different distros, but installing DEs on top of other OSs, I'm a beginner.

Will try Xubuntu, but Debian looks nice too.

This thread can now rest in peace. Thank you, Anon. :)

Just use xubuntu. Really, anyone who uses something like gentoo is just trying to make themselves seem like they're better than the average Linux user.

The truth is after you set up gentoo GASP it runs just like ubuntu.

They'll tell you it has less bloat but to that I say piss off
