Every few minutes I get IP's from China, Taiwan and Russia trying to access my ports. Is this normal?

how do you know this? Is it from logs in your firewall?

There are thousands if not more compromised servers and they're mostly botnet ip scanning the entire ip4 address space for more vulnerable servers.
