Hey, /tech/. I'm thinking of buying a laptop. Nothing too fancy, but I want it to have Windows 7 and be able to at least run Source games like Counter-Strike: Source and TF2 decently. A decent screen size would be a plus, but I want it to be compact enough to take with me anywhere. About how much do you think this would cost?

Heh, budget, right. I don't really have money to spare right -now-, but I'd be saving up 'til I can buy the laptop that fits my needs.

A couple months ago, I spent around $900 for a decent Asus notebook. It's nice and portable - I had an Alienware from 2006 which was 13 pounds, not including the power brick. So my Asus runs TF2 and other Source games really nicely - even L4D2 with all its hundreds of zombies.
For something that's going to be outdated in 12-18 months anyway, don't bother going for anything "premium" if it's just for play. $700-900 is a good range for Taiwanese notebooks with dedicated graphics. Try to consider them as slightly disposable, meaning you need high specs but cheap hardware (a mediocre display, no Blu-ray, etc).
