qemu multi-core?

according to the qemu man page qemu supports multiple cores:
"       SMP is supported with up to 255 CPUs."
but when I run it I always only get one core out of my system on there, any help?

In your shell:

qemu (launch options) -smp #

You might want to have more than 1 processor (that always helps).
