I've decided to go all Tesla...and build a 36 Pole Generator. It will be crude.

Description: A central shaft supported by two pontoons in a flowing river. A Water wheel on the shaft between the Pontoons that will turn the shaft. A smaller wheel with 66 steel bolts protruding so as to provide 36 poles - attatched to the shaft just outside of a Pontoon. Fitted to the support frame holding the shaft above the Pontoon, a Stationary Hub with 36 Poles (Long Bolts with Inductor windings) all connected up to generate electricity.
