A.C. Line Filter

So maybe I should have posted this here all along.

I am trying to calculate the values for a AC mains filter.

I have some idea of what I am doing. I posted all the info in this thread on /g/:

http://zip.4chan.org/g/res/4014747.html#4016955

but I will post the info here in case one of you fine anons will help me.

I need a hand working out some calculations for an AC induction motor. I am trying to design a filter to reduce the harmonics to within the IEEE standards for North America.

I did measurements with a power quality analyzer, and it showed the third harmonic is twice the IEEE limit, which was about 8%.

I just want to make a simple two or three-stage mains filter. Some X-caps and Y-caps, and a couple choke Inductors. Where I need help is in the actual calculations.

I am using a bridge rectifier, but I am only using one of the diodes simply to create the harmonics I need to filter out. My instructor originally said to design a filter for the motor by itself, but an AC induction motor by nature does not really generate harmonics. So last week he puts a heater cone(approx 8Ohms hot with the 40V passing through) and this rectifier diode in parallel with the motor(but in series with each other), which generates some harmonics, and now I am supposed to design a passive filter to correct the situation. Assignment is fucking lame but I have to do it or I wont graduate.

I know it should be a LC harmonic trap filter, but I don't know the right values to use for the inductors and caps. Also, I am not sure how many stages it should be in order to complete this task.

I will provide any and all info as needed.

WHOSE NAME IS GOING ON THAT FUCKING CERTIFICATE?

IT'S CALLED YOUR HOMEWORK BECAUSE, GET THIS, IT'S YOUR MOTHERFUCKING WORK

1: Draw the circuit
2: Label the circuit
3: Make a neat list underneath of the labels
4: Make a neat list next to each label of the information that you have
5: Make a list somewhere else of the information that you need
6: Search for formulas for that information
7: Transpose formulas if needed
8: CONTINUE DOING THIS
9: Profit
