Flash drive died

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-04 1:10

First timer here but maybe I can get some help anyway.

I have a 4GB flash drive which I backed up all my awesome pics (not to mention a ton of games, a movie or two, some music and some schoolwork even) but it just crapped out on me. One day I plug it in and it doesn't recognize it, so I change the USB it's in and it works fine - whatever. Next day, it doesn't get recognized at all, I plug it in, the light on it flashes on for half a second and it just lies listless. Dead. Been this way ever since. I opened it up and tried to reconnect some stuff (I have no idea what I'm doing) and all I can manage to do is short-circuit my computer and have to turn it back on.

So is this a lost cause or is there something I can do? Even if I can't salvage the drive, can I get the stuff off it for transfer to my HDD or another flashdrive?
