Will this brick my Sanyo Katana LX (again)?

Name: Anonymous 2009-01-14 15:48

I have a Sanyo Katana LX (SCP-3800) that I've had since July. Today I bought a data cable (a generic USB to Micro USB type B cable from Radio Shack). I plugged it into my pc, and the phone promptly died.

It had at least half a charge in it when I plugged it in. I tried it first in the USB hub built into my monitor. This caused my mouse and keyboard (also plugged into it) to stop working. The phone flashed a low battery warning on the outside screen and shut off. I then tried it on the ports on the case to my computer. It flashed the battery warning at me again, and shut off. This time for good. It wouldn't turn on or accept a charge. I took it to the Sprint Store. They couldn't get it to turn on either. They did however replace the phone with another of the same model.

So I'm back home now. The question is: do I risk it? Was it just a fluke with my old device, or is the new one likely to brick in the same way when I plug it in? Google has not helped me answer this question, so I turn to you all.
