WD Mybook 360 GB external help.

I need some serious help with this thing.
I accidently tripped over the USB cord during a transfer and now it won't connect to my computer.
Heres some more details.
When I hook it up, it makes the sound of a device being recognized. And the lights on the HD alternate, letting me know that its being read. But the lights never stop. And it takes a good 10 minutes for anything to show up on My Computer, and when it does, its labeled as a Local Disc, it begins to autoplay the HD. With the flashlight searching for something. If I let that run it tells me theres an I/O connection problem. Also, My Computer locks up, thusly making Windows Explorer stop responding. Am I fucked?

Even if it still works somewhat, it'll probably fail completely very soon. Get off whatever data you can and move on.

WD's MyBook series is INFAMOUS for it's utterly shitty and cheap hardware (the enclosure itself, the disk is standard and decent). They are prone to failure for any and all reasons with or without warning. Anyone using one for more than three months without problems has godly luck.

You basically have two choices:

Send it in to be replaced, if it is still under warranty.  You will lose all your data because they just give you a new one and recycle the old one.

Or take it apart, voiding any warranty you have, and use it as a decent internal disk.
