dual 8800 gt

Hey guys, i currently own dual 8800 gt (in a 3-way sli capable board)   I was kinda disappointed with it's performance in crysis and several other games (SLi isn't exactly making my games run 1.8x better, as it was advertized) an do Im currently wondering what to do..

Should I buy an 9800 gtx or gx2?
If so, should I SLi them?   

SHould I wait for the so called "new architecture" (possibly the 9900? ) 

Pc specs :  q6700 quad core @ 2.7ghz
            2gb ocz ram 
            2x 8800 gt (512mb both)

Currently dual booting vista x64 and  Xp 32bit
