Referer spoofing without plugins

Name: Anonymous 2008-03-23 1:02

Five minutes in JavaScript. Just add the following URL to your favourites:

javascript:document.body.innerHTML='<a id=xyzzyautoclick href="'+(function(u){if(/^http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\//.test(u))return u+"&pagewanted=all";return u;})(prompt("Please enter the URL to navigate to:","http://"))+'">Please wait...</a>';document.getElementById("xyzzyautoclick").click();undefined

Browse to the URL you want the referer to be, click the favourite, enter the URL you want to go to and presto. This example also demonstrates that you can easily modify the link if you want to. I'm sure this is not the best way to do it, and it probably has been done before, but it works for me, needs no plugins and hey, it was easy. And fun, which is why I couldn't help sharing it.

Out of curiosity, what language do you think Firefox plugins are written in?
