cannot renew ip address

Ok, so after some weird electric shit (a period where small appliances turn on with half the power and large appliances just don't work), my dsl just stopped working. The status light for my dsl on my modem is unlit and I cannot renew my ip address. Doing ipconfig renew would not work, DHCP could not be contacted thus timed out. Tried winsock and tcp/ip fix to no avail. I tried connecting my laptop up and there still was no connection.
Any help?

If your DSL modem is unable to sync, it's rather pointless to try software patches and whatnot. Get another modem, see if it syncs and if so, yours is broken. If not, call your ISP.

what's the chance that the cable went bad? Cause the status light just stops lighting up half way through, there's no red or flashing lights, it just stops after power and ethernet is lit. (there is a total of 5 lights; Power/Ethernet/Dsl/Internet/Activity)

Pretty unlikely, unless you've been handling it roughly prior to the failure. But why not try another one to make sure. In any case, get another modem from a friend and try that.

I can't access the modem config/hub, I am beginning to think the modem crapped out on me.

fuck, I just used a friend's modem, my modem's fucked. It won't read dsl. Any way I can download a modem?
