I have an LCD monitor and it's making noises that are coming from the AC connection. The sounds are crackling as if there are electrical arcs occurring in the plug. This is usually followed by the monitor shutting off. As long as nothing moves everything is fine, so I am assuming it's a bad connection at the monitor's plug. Is it worth opening it up to check it out or should I just live with a theoretical spark-emitting screen?

Honestly now: If you think it's in any way safe to use a malfunctioning electric device that is on for long periods at a time and may or may not have a shortcut-inducing insulation failure -- go ahead.
