Real World - Virtual world ?

Name: Anonymous 2007-08-12 17:47 ID:VbGeEx1x

HI, this is a serious thread, no jokes and abusive posts please ;)

We communicate with the machines like a PC with controll-devices like mouse and keyboard.

And now we get to the point.
If someone could create a "device" thats connects the whole mind of a person to the machine and then to the software.

Wouldn't it be great?

I mean, then something like Matrix could happen and other things of Animes!

You will think, wtf? etc. now. But these are just dreams of mine.
I wouldn't be able to contribute anything to it, since i am not intelligent enough :(((

This would be so good, i could flee from this reality and put my mind in another reality where i am another person :)

I think this would benifit everyone on the earth.

Actually are there some projects like this now?
Ok, this is unrealistic, since we couldn't even create devices that work by our cogitations....

Holy shit, are you fucking retarded? I hope this is copypasta.

Sounds like A Good Idea... there is testing going on as we speak

And guy above GTFO fag

>>2 here. While I still think the OP is dumb, this is still an interesting topic, so I'll contribute.

Anyway, people have been trying to do this sort of stuff for many decades, and science fiction writers have been writing about brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) since the beginning of the 20th century. There's an entire field dedicated to it (neuroengineering). The reason we don't have Matrix-like cognitive interfaces yet is because the brain is really, really fucking complicated.

>this is unrealistic, since we couldn't even create devices that work by our cogitations....

Wrong. There have been several implants that have already been designed that allow cognitive control of electronic systems, such as one that allows quadriplegics to control a mouse cursor by thought. Based on the journals I've read, the problem of designing BCIs is one of engineering, not of overcoming the barriers of physics.

>>4 the problem is, although there are devices which for example allow u to a steer a plane in the game measuring nerve impulses in your brain, I don't think science would be able to port or intertwine something as complex as the human conciusness to/with a computer.

but if u think about it, u probably just neeed to link up the sensory receptors, and the nerve endings responsible for movement correctly, and you can pretty much create an alternate world for the human involved... progression to which can be seen in limb replacement technology for example.

All in all I think that what the OP vaguelyt described is a logical next step in human evolution, and indeed in the evolution of life which originated on our planet.

Its difficult to judge anything as merely good or bad, but it seems like people like all life have an innate will to survive, and to be more efficient in survival, solving problems in the virtual world might be the step to take.

Note how much money was flooded into the communication industry throughout our history, latest example - the interenet, with its "bursting bubbles" ; I mean sure it could be just described by lucrative pursuits of individuals, but just maybe it had something to do with something within us, like beavers building dams or spiders spinning webs and such....

well my rant has gone on long enough I'll let some1 else take over...

The thing is, "just" linking up the parts of the brain responsible for sensory perception and movement is very difficult. There's a lot about the brain we don't know, a lot of parts we haven't mapped out yet.

Neurongineered limbs and BCI's are out there, but they're likely to be clumsy for a couple of decades more. Even when they aren't, they'll probably never be more than almost as good as the real thing.

But artificial reality like the Matrix is highly unlikely, and most of the flashy sci-fi technology you see in anime is never going to happen, as much for a lack of practicality as for technological limitations.

As for it being the next step in evolution, I tend to agree. But evolution is a slow process.

IRL you're all losers. Fact.

Yeah, than i missed the time to be born in^^.

I mean with internet you connect to big networks of various things. You exchange information etc. etc.

Next big big step in my opinion would be the ability with certain devices to connect your mind to virtual places.
LIke it would be a real meeting.

BUt yeah, the brain the most complext organ in the human body :(

I mean, when the damn countries put more money in projects and support the science and technology more we would be more advanced now!!

This is so pathethic, i wished i would posseses a genius mind to contribute to this, but i am to dumb :((
Damn me, that is why i hate myself!!

>>1 lol i want to beat people up in expensive virtual clubs with my katana
fix'd

Or, rather, if OP has not read and was not thinking of this, OP should be cut up with a real katana.

Perhaps... I really don't think humans have the sensibility or brain control internally to be able to do this. a plane steering linked to your brain... you think of the plain crashing or something and then you do crash lol. It's all very complex

a GAME controlled by the brain and connected to the brains pulses could have damage on the brain like a neutral imbalance or cause the brain to become inactive to control certain areas of the body.. there is STILL alot of information about the human brain that puzzles our greatest minds. Maybe sometime in the future but not at our current technological level.

Just to say the real world is better than any game console or device. Even if a device could fabricate a new life. Your exersize will go down hill and become obease while playing it. You will then die 30 years earlier due to a stroke... Everyone has to face real life. You could be a body builder inside the virtual game console thing but in real life you could be heading 4 death.

real life is better than anything... you just need to know what to grab and where to go to make your life a happy one
hope this info helps :-)

Lol nice saying, but doing it something else ;)

To be exact, i don't mind even if i would die in the next to years. In exchange for that i can become the hero surrounded by many many beautiful girls/women!
( when i mean beautiful, it is nothing compared to those ugly women like those from Hollywood ;))

http://openeeg.sourceforge.net/doc/

It only goes one way. You can control the computer with your mind, but the computer can't control you (or make you sense anything). And it's pretty crude control. It can tell your relaxation and concentration.

Here are some programs that use it: http://openeeg.sourceforge.net/doc/sw/

Thanks for your links.

^^xD It is pretty expensive -..-

I think the military is somewhat furhter in this technology-section.

I wish i could just use some of their "gadjets" ;)

How the fuck not? This has nothing to do with programming or SICP theme music.

>>17 Because it is about technology ?!

And this section is coincidentally about technology ? -.-

Wouldn't work because:

1. people wouldn't like it and would revolt if anyone said they had to.

2. You need to eat drink sleep and go to the bathroom to stay alive.

3. If they actually did make this it would be like becoming an hero...

It will work imo! ;) (i am nr.1 etc. etc. ;))

1) well nobody told you that you have to^^

2) this is another problem which need another solution
BUT! entering the "other world" you will "give up" your body anyways, so shouldn't much concern how your body looks like.
Only thing to do is, to keep your brain at full function.

The entire metabolism of your body will be taken care by machines. Of course you have to invent such a machine too first :(

3)
Yeah this is true, i wish i could make this;(
But you need to be a genius to do this though.

BTW:!!

Scientists mapped the brain a bit more, since they could EREASE the MEMORY of mice!!

It is geting closer and closer now, however we need some geniuses to accomplish the BIG THING, and unite all puzzles-pieces togeghter and thus solving COMPLETELY the ULTIMATE PUZZLE OF OUR BRAIN! :)

With this the foundation would be achieved, to create something like the matrix.

THE WHOLE NEGATIVE ASPECT, FOR ME ESPECIALLY, THOUGH IS THAT I WON'T LIVE LONG ENOUGH!!!

This so freaking annyoing!

Therefore i wish i would be the one who could achieve it and be the inventor of the OTHER WORLD, O.W., or Matrix whatever you like to call it.

But i don't have the genes, to bee that intelligent.....this is so annoying.
I REALLY HATE MYSELF FOR THIS REASON!

Have you ever read "A Rape in Cyberspace"?

Multiply that by one million, and you will have what virtual reality is going to be like.

Name: Loser 2007-08-18 5:46 ID:KKsYHpbV

>>21 no you misunderstood me.

Not only "one-world" but many, each of them desired by the single individual.

So perhaps something like a "dream-land".

And if one's dream dseire, mission or whatever is fullfilled, you will be logged out, which means "death" also in the "real-world", where your actuall body is!

With this everyone would be happy! ;)
