1. motherboards don't read hard drives.
2. formatting a motherboard is useless.

1. I'm talking about moving all my components to the new motherboard, setting it up, and running it. When I run it, will into boot into grub as usual?
2. I mean format the hard drive.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other.  Either you put it all together with the current hard disk contents, and hope XP (?) adapts well enough to the new motherboard hardware that it'll let you fix any driver problems; OR, you just put in another hard disk (hey, they're CHEAP), build another system fresh, and then attach the original hard disk as a 2nd drive and copy over all your settings, files, and especially /b/ folder.
