recording video games

What equipment would i need to record me playing a game? I want good quality too.

From what I've learnt using FRAPS, on-the-fly codecs aren't compressed very well, so when you try to play them back your hard-drive is struggling to keep up with the video.
Imagine asking your hard-drive for a hundred megabytes of video per second...

Compress the video, and you should be able to watch it fine.

At home I run (2) 512MB Dual Channel DDR 2CLS 333Mhz, ATI Radeon x850 Pro, and a 120GB WD 8MB cache 7200RPM hard drive. I get at least 100+ FPS when in-game. However, whenever I try to video cap with Fraps, it drops to <10 FPS. I've tried a variety of settings in both windowed and full-screen modes.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for this if they had run into this problem, or possibly could pass on what settings they are using.

Resolution is limited to 1152x864 for vid capture (unless FRAPS was upgraded recently)

but for sure taking vid at that resolution is intensive.. I run it 1152x864 and have a 3.2HT Ghz and still have a significant drop in frame rate. (x800xl vid card)

Playing *seriously while "frapping" isnt an option! :)

Ya fraps'ing and playing good don't work out so well.

it seems like people tend to got around 10 to 25fps
so just use TechSmith Camtasia Studio to record at 60fps

I hope all of you bitching about how FRAPS lowers the frame rates realize that it does this on purpose.

DVD recorder is your best bet for consoles. Make sure you get re-recordable DVDs, too.
