Is Vista all that it's cracked up to be?

Name: Anonymous 2007-04-15 2:48 ID:TcgKQo6s

all sauces point to no.

gooooooooooooo linux.

Name: Anonymous 2007-04-15 16:14 ID:ZEZzYIo4

it'll be good in about 2-3 years

Name: Anonymous 2007-04-15 16:17 ID:T4GEIqli

It'll never be good.

Name: Anonymous 2007-04-15 16:22 ID:ZEZzYIo4

So in 2-3 years you won't have upgraded your PC to do other stuff with it, and microsoft won't have spewed out a couple of service packs to fix most of the shit? In 2-3 years vista will be as good as XP was in 2005 and there hasn't been much in the way of bettering XP since then.

give it at least 12months.

the only reason to touch vista right now is if you're a sys admin, repair center or similar and need to fix all the dead boxes brought in :P

I am a linux user but i decided to try vista just to give it a chance. I tried it on 3 computers since i get it for free, i had missing drivers on all systems, i couldnt use aero and a few applications  on two of the machines, it crashed many times and was quite slow. In a few years on a high end machine it could be good but throw in all the drm crap, backdoors and everything else Microsoft have put in it i would rather stick to linux. For games stick to xp, or linux if its available.

Your computer must suck then. I'm using Vista with aero and all the aesthetically pleasing settings and it's fine, and hasn't crashed once. But I guess Linux is better for people who can't afford decent computers or operating systems that aren't free.

Vista is nice to look at, but has some issues with my hardware. Haven't gotten it to crash yet. If you get it for free, go for it. If not, stay with XP-or-OS-of-choice.

Or maybe he has more sense than to be ass raped into buying upgrades for his computer every time a new OS comes out.

I get the assrape on upgrades, but only because I like to game. And I don't need an OS the uses ridiculous amounts of recourses that could otherwise be going to the game itself. I'll switch when someone shows me something Vista can do that XP can't. (That I'd actually care about, not "built in benchmarking in case you've never heard of 3D Mark!")

dx10?

then with all due respect. you sir are a fool. buy the good shit now so you dont need to constantly upgrade to play your games.

i only upgrade part every 4-5yrs due to the simple fact that i spend 2x what most ppl do when i buy the parts. I missed the 6x series of nvidia altogether this way. an awesome 5800 saw me through those days and now i enjoy an 8800.

spend now. save later.

only a fool in regards to your h/w purchases tho. screw dx10. MS will HAVE to support xp with it sooner or later. it's called "supporting the user base" and we already know vista fucking blows hard so only 1 option left to M$. release DX10 on XP...

The assrape is exaggerated. Obviously I buy good stuff now. I went from an AXP 2800+ w/ a Radeon 9600 (OC'ed to 400/500!) to a Brisbane 3600+ @2.8GHz, and a 7600GT @ 600/1600. (the 7600 was on sale too, I couldn't resist)
I do fully anticipate DX10 on XP. And wait time won't really matter since few games use DX10, and this will likely be the case for some time. (Considering they need to finish it, then release the SDK, THEN wait for games to be made. I'll bet it will see revisions like DX8 and DX9 too.

i paid about $700 for my comp, plus the $300 vid card and my lcd monitor, its worth around $1300.

the way i see it, why pay money when you can get something that:
a) Does the same things
b) Does (a) with less system overhead
c) Securely designed
d) Has less than 50 viruses, none of which are wild on the intertubes
e) Has a fucking penguin as a mascot.

I can either dual boot, or use a virtual machine with my ME disk for gaming, or request the company to compile a linux version to release.

>If you put your software though a different compiler... i would buy it.

I don't see the downside for the company.
