my Sony Handycam needs cleaning

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-20 21:57

I have a Sony Handycam (DCR-HC21) and it's heads are dirty. MiniDV is a wonderful format, but it can be touchy when I use a half-dozen different brands of cassettes over the period of a few months. Apparently, different manufacturers apply the recordable layer on the tape differently, so the wear-patterns begin to inhibit the signal easier.

I don't want to use a "dry" cleaning cassette because of the abrasiveness, and I can't find a "wet"-type on any webpage (not even on Sony's servers). So I need some good instructional materials on "doin' it me-self". I already have some experience in cleaning/repair and disassembly/reassembly of various devices such as VCRs and VHS Cassettes, but this technology is still a little new to me even though it is fundamentaly the same.
