&$^@^$ing retail prices!

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-16 4:14

Hey, I am about to buy a Palm TX, and the guy at my local compusa is willing to match newegg's price of $265 if I get the ~$50 two year replacement plan, that covers broken screens. And he will throw in the wireless keyboard at a reduced price for a total of $350.

Should I go for it, or get it from palm at $299 with free shipping and a free keyboard, the keyboard is $60 by its self.

Newegg has it for $265 with ~$5 shipping. All of them have a one year standard warranty from palm

I never get extended warranties, I have never been in a situation where I wish I had one.
And the only reason I would consider getting it from compusa is because they have the replacement plan that covers cracked screens.

What do you all think?
And why we are here, lets talk about extended warranties, wast of $$$? or protection for your "investment"?

Yeah, think of all the times you've cracked your computer screen.

Really now, as frequently as it occurs, you should buy up all the extended warrenty they have to offer, so that they can laugh at you on your way out.

Newegg, the warranty from the site will probably be better than a Compusa replacement plan.

Actully newegg doesnot have a replacement plan that covers broken screens.
>>2

Not a computer screen, a PDA screen (see http://images.jiwire.com/images/reviews/palm-tx/left-300x450.jpg)

And of the 5 pdas I have had over the years I only broke the screen on one, and that was a freak acadent.

So yea, screw the guys at comp usa matching price only if i get there warrenty/replacement plan. I will buy it off newegg.

I will just get a good case, Plus, if i DO somehow break the screen I can have it (just the screen) replaced for $170.

How much do you think palm gets there screens for anyhow?

They are 64K color 3.8" 320x480 (half vga/HVGA) TFT active matrix toutch screen.

Anyways, >>1, please listen to me. That it's really related to this thread. I went to Yoshinoya a while ago; you know, Yoshinoya? Well anyways there was an insane number of people there, and I couldn't get in. Then, I looked at the banner hanging from the ceiling, and it had "150 yen off" written on it. Oh, the stupidity. Those idiots. You, don't come to Yoshinoya just because it's 150 yen off, fool. It's only 150 yen, 1-5-0 YEN for crying out loud. There're even entire families here. Family of 4, all out for some Yoshinoya, huh? How fucking nice. "Alright, daddy's gonna order the extra-large." God I can't bear to watch. You people, I'll give you 150 yen if you get out of those seats. Yosinoya should be a bloody place. That tense atmosphere, where two guys on opposite sides of the U-shaped table can start a fight at any time, the stab-or-be-stabbed mentality, that's what's great about this place. Women and children should screw off and stay home. Anyways, I was about to start eating, and then the bastard beside me goes "extra-large, with extra sauce." Who in the world orders extra sauce nowadays, you moron? I want to ask him, "do you REALLY want to eat it with extra sauce?" I want to interrogate him. I want to interrogate him for roughly an hour. Are you sure you don't just want to try saying "extra sauce"? Coming from a Yoshinoya veteran such as myself, the latest trend among us vets is this, extra green onion. That's right, extra green onion. This is the vet's way of eating. Extra green onion means more green onion than sauce. But on the other hand the price is a tad higher. This is the key. And then, it's delicious. This is unbeatable. However, if you order this then there is danger that you'll be marked by the employees from next time on; it's a double-edged sword. I can't recommend it to amateurs. What this all really means, though, is that you, >>1, should just stick with today's special.

AO, SWG, DAOC, AC2, WoW. Clones. Every. Single. One. Of. Them. The question begs to be asked, Why? The answer of course is confusion over what made EQ successful, and the drive to duplicate it. Why else would Turbine, with a successful first generation MMORPG of their own in AC1, which was developed concurrently with Everquest try to replicate EQ with their sequel. These developers and publishers saw the success of EQ and set forth to copy and improve on it, or just slightly change it up. Daoc went for the EQ meets zergy pvp angle. AO went with the EQ meets future angle. SWG went with the EQ meets Starwars angle (How this didn’t make a gazillion dollars I don’t know, wait did George Lucas design it?) so on and so forth. Developers didn’t look at why EQ was so successful, they just saw that it was successful and copied its mechanics. The thought that EQ was successful because the PvE population of UO was in open revolt never crossed their collective minds I’d wager. There is less complexity in EQ and its clones, less immersion, less innovation. How is it possible, that a 2d game converted to 3d, Asherons Call, is the only major mmorpg to date to actually have REAL line of sight, and REAL projectiles for magic and missles? Finally we have the culmination of EQ in WoW, at least I hope so. WoW is everything EQ wished it could be, minus any sort of skill requirement. Im not saying EQ required a lot of skill, but WoW is dumbed down to the point that you could pass out on your keyboard, drool all over it, and wake up level 60 in full epic gear.

Screw that. Warranties and replacement plans are stores' main way of ripping people the fuck off. Ninety-nine times out of hundred, that $200 warranty you bought on that shiny new electronic gadgetry will never be needed.
