reboot @ win xp startup

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-10 11:59

I bought some new computer parts (everything except my PSU and HD) and now my computer only reaches the windows xp startup screen until it reboots itself. Failsafe mode doesn't work either, same trouble. Any ideas what might be the problem?

jumper settings on new HD maybe?

make sure its set on cable select, or slave, and make sure its on the middle connector in the IDE ribbon (if its not sata)

the psu should be fine, im assuming since you bought a new one, that its more watts, so the only issue with the PSU would be that its completely broken, which would mean you probably wouldnt even be able to turn on your computer.

So basically you're dropping an old XP installation onto a completely new hardware configuration. And you're SUPRISED that you're running into trouble?

Your install of XP is barfing because it doesn't see the same HDD controller it's used to (and probably lacks drivers). Same goes for your GFX/vidcard (display adapter) and possibly other devices (chipsets).

Yes dipshit, the problem is you changed your hardware. You can't do that on Windows XP. Have fun reinstalling.
