Higurashi Daybreak

I don't get this game running properly.
Only the top-left half of the 2D pictures in the game appear and everything is blinking irregulary. When I get into battle the 3D surroundings are okay, but the 2D graphics are broken in the way described above.
I've tried installing the newest graphic card driver, I've upgraded to DirectX 9.0c, dxdiag says no problems have been found and I've set the system standard language to Japanese.

I'm thankful for any help.

That card is not DX9, and you might need DX9 hardware. If you are on a budget, you could always try picking up a cheap AGP geforce 6600 or x700. If you have enough dough, you could get a 6800 or x800 based card.
