VNC and MPC and stuff

So I have a tendancy to watch duel-audio/soft-subbed Matroska and OGM files.  The first time I installed MPC, it would play Matroska perfectly, but wouldn't play OGM files, so I used VNC for that.  The only problem I had with VNC was that the subtitles looked ugly, tended to stretch to far, and overlapped with one another.  Recently I reinstalled MPC and changed a few codecs around, and now the problem has reversed.  MPC now plays OGM files perfectly but screws up on Matroska files.  The problem with the Matroska files is that it automatically plays the first audio track and the first subtitles track, regardless of what they are, and does not allow me to change them.  I'm sick and tired of using VLC's ugly subtitling and would like an alternative.  If I could get MPC to work better I would gladly use that, but if anyone else knows where I might find another alternative program, or even an alternative codec, I would be grateful.

Ok, what it has listed here is under "DirectShow Video" "Overlay Mixer" is checked.  Skipping "RealMedia Video" and "Quicktime Video," under "'VMR7/9 (renderless)' & 'DirectX 7/9' settings" "Use texture surfaces and render video in 2D" is checked and the checkbox by "VMR9 mixer mode" is checked.  Under DirectShow Audio "Default DirectSound Device (00800000)" is selected, and the checkbox by "Lock back-buffer before presenting (may fix broken vertical syncronization)" is checked.  I don't know what part of this I need to fix, but I skipped the RealMedia and Quicktime because I get the feeling that they are not a part of the problem.
