Either somebody real curious about evolution, or someone thinks that natural selection is such a poor concept that it isn't capable of explaining the diversity of life. I dunno.
As for the evolutionary advantage, there isn't any that I can see, aside from the fact that he's doing somthing his species are prone to-- communication. Which certainly has advantages that are easy to guess.
