Perturbation theory (quantum mechanics)

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-21 18:21

H = H_0 + W
|Psi> = |Psi_0> + y |Psi_1> + y^2 |Psi_2>
En = En0 + y * En1 + y^2 * En2
W = ?
H|Psi_n> = En|Psi>
How many possibilities for W to be this?

twelve

Isn't W just the perturbing potential?
In which case W can be anything?

OP:
My question is how many possibilities are there that the perpetubing potential allows you to end the approximation after En2 and |Psi_2>.
I wonder which classes for the perpetubing potential W exist so this will work.

Assuming the series converges, you use as many increments as are necessary to get the precision you want.
Unless En3... are all 0, you'll never get an exact answer.

So whats the classes to get En3 etc 0?
