Need help to get better at Math

Name: Anonymous 2009-03-14 23:00

Hey there /sci/,

This being my first time lurking /sci/, I decided to post the question:

How do I get better at Math?

I'm currently a sophomore in college and declared myself as a Math major.  I'm taking Number Theory as well as Calculus 2 at the moment (I had to take Pre-calc 1st semester Freshmen year, and Calc 1 2nd semester but this was not the same Calculus for math majors, so I had to retake Calc 1 last semester).

While I find Calculus to be a bit more understandable, Number Theory is just getting ridiculous, as it requires me to take several hours, and at times with study groups, to do my homework assignments.

I was wondering if there were any way that I could emerge myself more in the math community so that I can learn to think more like a Mathmatician.

For now, eat, breathe, and sleep math.

When you gain some more aptitude, start reading research papers and talking to professors/doing shit for them.

Though, I must ask, why are you a math major, having taken Precalc as a college freshman. I took that during the summer after my hs freshman year and I had no intention of doing math (chose engineering).
