Ellipses

Name: Anonymous 2009-03-13 21:37

I'm trying to find resources for ellipses (in particular, how to find the area of a section of an ellipse) and all I seem to find are websites that basically copied and pasted each other's information over and over again.

So do any of you /sci/fags know how to find the area of a section of an ellipse, either from one of the foci (like in Kepler's 2nd law of planetary motion) or from the center?

Yeah, I know that.  What I was talking about was the area of a section of an ellipse.  Take an ellipse and draw 2 arbitrary lines that originate from either one of the foci or the center.  The lines extend out to the perimeter of the ellipse.  Is there a way to determine what the area enclosed by the two lines would be?
