Not really true. In fact up until recently (e.g. the past couple hundred years), religion was one of the biggest motivating factors for the pursuit of science and technology. Of course, this is before science started running amok on religion's turf. Nowadays, from what the crazies tell you you'd swear science of any kind is an affront to the lord.
