how do i solve the complex number z in the equation

(z-1)^3=8i

you can do it this way Log(z-1)/Log81=3z then its simple algrabra

Take cube roots, and if you let u be any third root of i (you should be able to figure one out explicitly somehow) and w a third root of 1 (i.e. (-1+sqrt(-3))/2) then the solutions are:

z = 1+8*u
z = 1+8*w*u
z = 1+8*w^2*u

You mean
z = 1+2u
z = 1+2w*u
z = 1+2w^2*u
rite?

you can do it the sage way!
