LHC Tomorrow

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-09 23:58

I for one am scared shitless.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-10 0:17

no one cares

Which experiment?  I thought they were going to spend about a yr calibrating their equipment.

Supernovas are far more violent than anything that could possibly be done in the LHC, yet the world still exists.

How many supernovas have there been in the surface of the Earth in the past few billion years?
The LHC is completely harmless, but that's a retarded comparison.

That comparison is a bit exaggerated, but it does disprove some of those "like OMGz, the entire universe will tear apart and God's wrath will be upon us" doomsayers.

Besides, most supernova explosions don't result in black holes anyway.  The energies at our disposal is nowhere near enough to do anything.  I'm going to bet they're just going to improve the standard model by another 3 decimal points, and they will discover nothing.

Name: 4tran 2008-09-10 2:44

Yeah, wikipedia says they're not even doing any experiments tomorrow, just making particles go loop de loop around the track.  No major collisions until 21 Oct.

I don't care either way what happens. There are positives for both events. See it this way, if it does goes wrong Iran and N. Korea will be destroyed.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-10 7:02

Well we survived, you doomsayers must feel pretty stupid right now.

I hope they do. So much fucking hysteria today where I am, especially by Christfags. "HOLY SHIT REVELATIONS IS HAPPENIN!!!1!!eleven!"

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-10 9:44

actually it is still going to end when they create a miniature black hole because there is no known way to destroy it so it will suck the whole earth, then the solar system into it

1. Hawking radiation
2. Number of black holes already in existence
3. Your IQ (lower than the values of the preceding two conditions)

it could create a black hole big enough to destroy the earth.
however the earth would already have been destroyed by the sun.

Name: 4tran 2008-09-10 18:55

>>10
It will suck the earth in, but the moon won't be affected in the slightest.  Ditto for the rest of the solar system.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-10 22:45

What a fucking idiot, ever heard of Hawking radiation? ignorant fool.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-11 9:06

>>14
Hawking radiation is a lie that has been disproven.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-12 6:10

>>15

Oh, you met Jesus Bob the drunk.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-13 5:16

you guys obviously dont know much about quantum physics if you think hawkings radiation exists, it has been disproven and is not accepted by the scientific community. when the lhc opens its black holes they are not going to just disappear they will continue to grow and they will suck the whole earth into themselves

Last I heard, hawking radiation is sufficiently accepted that every new theory of everything must predict it in some manner (a pre experiment sanity check for whether the theory is worth spending time on).  Either that or black hole entropy or something.

Name: hobbit 2008-09-14 5:09

there is a possibility a black hole will be created. however from what i heard it will take so long to grow to the critical mass where it could destroy the earth, we will be long gone due to the death of the sun.

Time it takes for an LHC black hole to reach the mass where it could destroy the earth. 10 billion years.

Time it takes for the sun to die and ens all life on earth. 5 billion years

LHC = ATTENTIONWHORE!

Name: jhc 2008-09-19 10:39

Shit... the world has ended, financial markets around the world are collapsing. All because of this hardon collider

p.s. typo is deliberate

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-19 17:39

supercollider? but I hardly know her

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-19 19:27

I laughed so hard, I pee'd myself a little.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-19 19:54

I can't believe you stole that from xkcd. Actually, I can't believe Randall even said it.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-20 8:28

>>24
Why? Were you under the impression xkcd had even the tiniest shred of originality to it?

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-20 9:43

here.

Just as expected. LHC =FAIL

Get over it you stupid fuckers!
And also, do get a brain.

I don't get it.  How is it funny?  Is it supposed to be a pun on a bad pronounciation of "supercollider"?
