Motivation

Sup /sci/,
Where do you get motivation to learn form?Is it because you're ineterested,or for the $$$?How does it work for you?Short bursts of interest on a certain subject or OMG I WANT TO KNOW EVERYTHING?

TL;DR-why are you interested in science?

Name: Anonymous 2008-06-08 6:34

Wondering the same.

Ask some place with real experts.

I want to know what is the motivation for  the every day nerd is.

As for me,I just find science literally Beautiful.I swear, i sometimes get catharsis just looking at insides of gadgets,or at nature's genius.Even if don't understand it.And when i don't understand it,this motivates me to find out just why and how everything works.

Motivation comes from where you want it to come from. There is no set standard for motivation or initiative.
There are some known methods that can be applied however.

1) Use emotional/chemical responses to move you into action as this is the natural methdology of the universe to use the potential energies to insite motion; however, this method is unreliable as there is too much that depends upon these chemicals and can become habit forming and difficult to change over an extended period of time.

2) You can use your human Will. This is more difficult and requires a strength beyond that which can be measured or observed. For some, this method really doesn't exist, yet there are those that believe so whole-heartedly in it that this method whether it really is there or not is irrelevant as the motivation still comes and is used perpetually throughout that person's life. It requires knowing both means and ends through experience in order to make appropriate choice. But to first explore the preliminary action, you have to have what to some is called "faith". Now I do realize that the first association to the world "faith" automatically gets stereotyped into the realm of having to subscribe to weekly local religious functions, but that simply isn't the case necessarily. In order to have faith, you have to believe that you can survive the outcome of the action you perform. In otherwords you have to be willing to give up your moment of solice for extended moments of discomfort in order to understand the details of an experience that was once thought of only as imagination, according to your point of origin. To have "faith" means you "believe" in something that has yet to occur in order to faciliate an appropriate course of action and perhaps further understanding in the current action, but more imporantly, be able to understand similar aspects of the current action as with previous known and accomplished activities to a more fulfilling and much more deeply involving aspects than previously thought possible. In otherwords, you will get to know yourself.

The problem lies within the fear of loss of comfort. Chemicals race into place and excite your body on a celluar, but what action you perform is entirely up to your choice. If you choose to do nothing eventually those chemicals will settle down and you will once again return to that state of harmonious solice and peace, all the while your body is actually stiffening up, using vital energies and nutrients in order to stimulate you with those aforementioned chemicals. But those chemicals will always be inflected upon your celluar structure whether you want them or not. So, by attempting to escape them and the newly acquired state of discomfort you inadvertently deny that they even affect you with their stimulations which is even worse because now they have to potential to cause you to be dependent upon them as a motivation, but to the ends that you prescribe to perform.
The problem lies in what you believe.
My personal understanding is that belief and faith are like energy, they have dualities (or more psycholigically stated, multiple personalities) where it simply exists as a current state of what is as opposed to something to gain or lose.
Take for instance someone who believes that they are in control of their lives, yet their finances and time management is so irratic that they are consistently falling into traps and bouts with their own biology yet continually state they are in control of their lives. The fact is that their faith and belief stems from what they believe, but the actual status of their condition is that of being biologically controlled via plausible deniability. (they lie to themselves to perpetuate their own delusional beliefs) But realistically, what happens if this method is turned to an advantage whereby you lie to yourself saying you won't be hurt, you leave the outcome as flexible as you can, you observe just where you would like to end up roughly and jump. Upon landing you now understand the mechanics involved in jumping with a bit more detail than before, and now, you can use that experience to promote greater understanding by repetition of practice. Go ahead! Find something that you absolutely do not want to do and give yourself a rough idea of where you would like to end up and see what happens, just to see what happens! This is known as discovery of self. You are actually learning your own capabilities and capacities by "WALKING" the mile rather than guessing at the mile and accepting it as finality and belief. Without either, both will fade with time because conflicts with resistence in other masses and energies will either motivate or inhibit you to some degree. Whether you concede or proceed to the next step, you simply begin to decay. This is one great understanding of life.
And realistically, even everything I state is questionable as well it should be. Everything that I state which may "appear" as absolute is actually obtained via my own relative perception and all perception is relative to that of its biology. I could be a kid with Attention Deficit Dissorder or Asperger's trying to explain to you something, but if you take on faith that you can learn from anything even a dummy, you will have obtained a greater understand of yourself rather than building up someone else's ego. All I have are ideas and experiences that are my personal intangible but validly personally accessible and usable to my own disadvantage or advantage. What you do with these words are entirely up to you. It really doesn't effect me either way what you do with the information. It's already my asset, but to you it may seemingly appear as trash. Thus I see that the reality of this world is that of, "Every man's treasure are another man's trash" meaning to me, "Every man's experiences are another man's skepticism." Hence the reason for the great saying as a course of action, "One man's trash is another man's treasure." Do you see the practical application? And what can it matter to you. It's working fine for me eligantly I might add, but how will it work for you? Perhaps a little tweaking and fine tuning may be required for it to work appropriately for you? I simply don't know.

OK,but what that has got to do with your own interest in  TEH SCIENCE?

Name: Anonymous 2008-06-08 10:36

Just curious, I guess. Ultimately I'd like to know everything, starting with the most interesting parts.

Name: Anonymous 2008-06-08 11:34

I'd never want to know everything, because I always want to know more.

=====

im shaken about this atm. my raw theory about this is as follows:
(did I mention its raw?)

----

1) phrasing = kind of Ontologic
transistasis vs homöostasis

2) psychologically:
a duality of stabilizing habit and a destabilizing interdependency of intuition and conscious ideas of neccessities (research, constructs,..)
really, I fight xD

3) practically:
its the experience that
1) everything gets worse
2) I make it better (with limited capabilities bla)
3) that works only with organization (capabilities = x = goal? )
+  that depends on research
+  that on organization
+bla
+  only the facts DO change.
the rest is organizing again.
(did I still mention its raw?)

----
Im interested in everything, since everything means the one or other kind of power. statistically. There are priorities, of course, that tends to make it a little stern at times.

an interest in the sciences pretty much is a symptom of the above stated.

good input?

Nothing superficial, thought out, fake, unimportant, prioritized, or otherwise halted at any but the absolute necessity that I stop looking further and further into what actually consitutes the space and time that I occupy.

I've never really given it much thought. Guess I'm a short burst kinda thinker/creator.

Name: Anonymous 2008-06-16 16:47

It's OMG I WANT TO KNOW EVERYTHING. Literally ; I'm just curious to know how things work (more precisely, how we think things work, because it is, I think, funnier). This thirst for knowledge encompasses a lot of different fields. So much in fact, that my knowledge is in general somewhat superficial and I have trouble getting to the bottom of things. It's not like having ADD - I can focus on a particular subject for a long time, I'm just lazy (can't be bothered to remember all those fine details) and a bit impulsive (I want to know what's next after having learnt something).
