NASA to announce discovery

WASHINGTON -- NASA has scheduled a media teleconference Wednesday, May 14, at 1 p.m. EDT, to announce the discovery of an object in our Galaxy astronomers have been hunting for more than 50 years. This finding was made by combining data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory with ground-based observations.

No, we'd be fucked if it happened within 5 lightyears. I doubt the mass ejected will have any effect on us.  Besides, any mass would have to be traveling at near the speed of light to get to us in any resonable amount of time, and the distances involved make it unlikely.  Be an interesting place to explore, if we ever manage to do that.
