Herbalism needs further study. Some herbs work great and have obvious effects, others are only believed to work and remain untested in clinical trials, and others don't work at all.

Still others have an effect opposite of what is intended. I heard China is starting serious research into herbs that have been used throughout the centuries, but I don't know how they are progressing.
Plants (and animals) are a complicated lot, with their trillions of undocumented organic chemicals. If only we had the time/capacity to sort them out...
