The hardest metal known to man

I'm doing some research for my high school chemistry class, and I can't find any info on the hardness of metals.  Please, what's the hardest metal known to man?

Do a barrel roll and drown in spurting pearl jam.

Now, back to the topic.  What did you mean by "metal"?  Do you mean:

1. Elemental metal.
2. Alloyed metal.

If #1 was your aim, then the answer is Chromium, at 8.5 on the Mohs scale.

If #2 is your aim, then the answer is Alloy 1090 of carbon steel.  Note that that's still softer than diamond (which is the hardest substance known).
