Citric acid + natrium hydrocarbonate = ???

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-28 13:26

What will I get when I mix citric acid and Na2HCO3 in water?  I guess it would be something alkaline, but I can't figure out how citric acid molecule will split and how is CO2 created.  Is it dangerous/toxic to drink?
Thanks!
P. S. not homework, just curious.

3NaHCO3 + C3H4(OH)(COOH)3 = C3H4(OH)(COONa)3 + 3H20 + 3CO2

It's not dangerous to drink - in fact, this is how poor people make lemon soda.
