Suck on this

a=b
a^2=ab
a^2-b^2=ab-b2
(a-b)(a-b)=b(a-b)
a-b=b
b+b=b
2b=b
2=1

brain = ruined

Congratulations, you are working in the trivial ring.  In this ring everything equals 0, hence you can divide by it.

Otherwise you have made a mistake on this step:
(a-b)(a-b)=b(a-b)
a-b=b
You can only divide by zero in the trivial ring.

a^2-b^2 does not factor into (a-b)(a-b)

(a-b)(a-b)=a^2-2ab+b^2

Not to mention if a^2=ab then a=b to begin with.

(a-b)(a-b)=b(a-b)
a-b=b

Huh.

a=b
a^2=ab
a^2-b^2=ab-b2
(a-b)(a+b)=b(a-b)
(a+b)=b
a=b-b
a=0=b

(a+b)(a-b)= a^2-ab+ab-b^2 = a^2-b^2
(a-b)(a-b)= a^2+2ab+b^2
In this situation where a=b=0

a^2+2ab+b^2 = a^2-b^2  but only because they both = 0.
