Why does it take more energy to give a mass the same momentum as a larger mass?

Object1, M=1
V=1, P=1, Ke=0.5
V=2, P=2, Ke=2
V=3, P=3, Ke=4.5

When an object is accelerating without resistance, why does it take more and more energy to accelerate it the same amount?
