We've reached a point where cultures are much too complex to easily explain why poor immigrants have a higher rate of success in America than blacks (which I still don't believe unless you provide a link to these statistics, there are plenty of successful blacks who grew up in poverty, and I have no reason to believe the success rate is lower than immigrants).  Simply saying that the immigrants' cultures are superior to the blacks' is taking the easy way out.  There are plenty of other reasons that could apply, such as only the smartest immigrants from their homelands were able to successfully find a way here.

What do you mean?  This is covered in the book, none of them wanted Australia because it is a wasteland where the inhabitants had to regress to hunting and scavenging with extremely basic tools to survive.  The only area worthy of colonization, the south-east, was taken by the Europeans when they did find it.  There is historical evidence that the Chinese were unaware of the southern areas and had never explored them.
