I agree, there's a lot of people in sci/math who can't verify things themselves.  The concept of a proof or construction is fairly simple.  If you understand the material you can conclude for yourself whether each step is valid or not.  The only things you should ever have to just assume are right in a correct proof are axioms.  There's a lot of people here who seem like they've never had more than high school algebra and geometry, maybe some calculus.

its equal to anything thats equivalent to a sequence approaching infinity.

0.000...1 is the inverse of infinity, so 1/0.000...1 = 1*inf = inf

1/inf = 0.000...1

inf * 0.000...1 = 1

the hyperreals also have numbers which are equal to a regular real plus/minus an infintesimal (thats the name for the 0.000...1 thing)
