skipping lectures

what are your opinions on skipping lectures for sci/math courses? Most of my lectures just go over what is in the text, so i dont see what im getting out of them that i wouldn’t get by just reading myself. And right now im in this vicious cycle where i have a midterm, so i skip classes except for the class with the midterm so that i can study, but once its over im way behind in my other classes which will have tests coming up etc. etc.

So, in otherwords, how plausible is it to get good grades while skipping lectures?

I skip all lectures, then try to read up on things a week ahead of any exam (although I usually end up postponing that to the day before). It's worked fine so far.

Why read when you can have someone give you a lecture and answer questions? I use text books mainly to recap on what I learn in a lecture.
