It's i and -i, which is a single point on the riemann surface for sqrt(z).

Order of operations.
-1^2 = -1
(-1)^2 = 1

QED

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-20 14:29

the question is...: -(1^0.5) or (-1)^0.5.

-(1^0.5)= -(sqrt 1) = -1

(-1)^0.5 = sqrt -1 = i

Choose the one u like.

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-21 14:54

(-1)^0.5 = 0/0

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-21 18:02

it's i
