.999 = 1?

Yeah. Some people in another forum were talking 'bout this earlier, and the debate seems to be endless.

What do you think?

.999...=.9+.09+.009...=.9*(1+r+r^2...) with r=.1
since (1+r+r^2...) is a converging geometric series it equals 1/(1-r)=1/(1-.1)=1/.9
so going back,
.999...=.9*(1+r+r^2...)=.9*(1/.9)=1, Q.E.D.

not that I expect either >>1 or >>10 to understand
